Anyone use one of these? How are they? I am kinda thinking about picking one up but would like to ask around first. I don't really know much about tablets.

I'm looking at the ProGear 1050SE
400mhz
128 ram
5gb HD
** Can any of this be upgraded?

Currently of the 3 things you mention, only the disk drive can be upgraded.
[you have to use 9mm slim laptop drives too as 12.5mm drives won't fit].

And then you have to find a way to upgrade to software externally to the progear - e.g. via your PC.

If you get it cheap enough its a good deal. I have one, that works fine.

Ditch the Linux on it though as its out of date.
I put Win XP pro on it and it runs fine once you stop 2/3rd of the unneeded windows services.

Ok thanks for the info.

Is $400-$450 a good deal you think?

** oh and the guy told me it only has 64mb ram. Not the 128. but does have the same procsessor and HD. He told me that
in the future someone is planning on offering memory upgrades to 512mb. Have you heard anything about that?

TIA

Don't hold your breath on the memory upgrade side of things, its not a simple job.
It may happen, it may not.

Better to buy a 128MB unit for your requirements now - there are plenty of Progears for sale around the place [and not just Ebay].

Theres a Progear newsgroup on Yahoo that has lots of Progears for sale as people get rid of the ones they bought for all sorts of reasons.

Average price seems to be $450 to $550 depending on accessories [like spare batteries, docking stations, amount of RAM etc].

#6 thanks for your expertise. I think I will try to find a 128mb version.

Hopefully the memory upgrade will come through but I know its a difficult task.

Found the yahoo group. Scanning it now for possible sellers.

I got a Windows 98 version which absolutely crawled - but then I found a sweet application for these things. They run XP Remote Desktop (i.e. the client, under 98) very quickly indeed so I now have an extremely usable wireless front end for my XP media server. Rocks
