Well, Iraq probably doesn't get much American culture coming their way, so it's possible that he had just finished watching "Gleaming the Cube" for the first time.

Oh my god I love that movie. Nobody I know has any idea what I'm talking about when I mention it. That black board at the end was sweet, and I don't even skateboard

Man, when that movie came out, we were so stoked that it had pro skaters in it, my friends and i watched it so many times we lost count. It was hilarious to see the parts where Lance Mountain and Rodney Mullen did the stunt stand ins for Slater. We couldn't imagine how no one noticed the difference in styles and stuff. Heheh.

I saw it on TV a few years back and they had renamed it "A Brothers Revenge"... i guess since "Gleaming the Cube" was meaningless to 99.9% of the population.

Haha! A Brother's Revenge. It's pretty bad when they rename a movie with the thin plot it stood on. That was never the point of the movie, as far as I saw it

And now I'm off to watch the Rocketeer

Ok, here is a real way to make yourself feel dated. Ask someone that's about 23 or younger what Garbage Pail Kids are.

Garbage Pail Kids were great. Some of those things were pretty messed up, too.

Okay, but did you know that they were created by Art Spiegelman, a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist?

I remember in school when two of the first series Garbage Pail Kids were banned in our school. One of them had a biker dude sucking down a beer, and the other one had a girl with fountains of snot coming out of her nose. Eventually they banned the cards entirely. I stopped collecting them around 3rd series or so. I think I traded most of them away for hockey cards.

Isnt he the guy who did Maus?

That is still to this day one of my favorite reads. Good (horrific) story, with nice artwork.

..Or Member's Only jackets, Panama Jack t-shirts, parachute pants, etc.

Garbage Pail kids were cool. I wonder what the first card is worth now (I think it was Adam Bomb)?

Not that much, apparently.

Probably because 80's nostalgia is so passé.

Too bad they're not worth much, I have about 1/2 of the first series in pretty good condition, at my mother's house somewhere. (ok I know exactly where they are, but I'm not really that pathetic I swear)

Suuuuure. Not only do you know exactly where they are, but you've got them all in the proper sorted order, with checklists, in those plastic card-holder thingies. I see through your chawade.

I would consider (potentially) $6 for a 2x3 piece of cheap cardstock fairly significant.

Yeah but there are no bids. So the minimum bid price is too high. For the first in a series, it's clear that the GPK cards don't have all that much value. Some other Ebay searches of complete sets, etc. confirmed that their value isn't as much as I had thought, really.

According to my sources, Adam Bomb was not number one, but, rather, Nasty Nick. Edit: It looks like Adam Bomb was featured on the cover of the wax packs, though.

I just got the Collecter's Edition of Robotech: Battlecry last night. It came with an amazing shirt with Skull One on the back. So I wore it in to work today (under my typical Friday Hawaiin Shirt Surrogate), proudly showed it to a few of the people I work with, and they never heard of Robotech.

Getting old sucks.

I wondered about that.... Adam Bomb is refered to as the "card that started it all". However He's listed as card 8a.

Funny that we get into this discussion on the day that the U.S. Military released "Deposed Dictators 1st Edition" trading cards. Collect 'em all!

I hear the 2nd edition is going to feature the Syrians, but rumors are about that the Iranians are being considered as well.

But did any of you see the Garbage Pail Kids MOVIE?! They showed it here in SF at a tiny art house theatreabout 6 months ago, and they provided a full sheet writeup of the history of the movie and the towns it was banned in. Good stuff.

No way dude! I just finished watching VH1's 80's show. I've seen the first 4 episodes (80-83). In 83 they talked about cabbage patch kids and how much smarter KITT was than Michael.
