EAC suddenly decided to not recognize audio cd's.... weird. My drive seems to be working since WInAmp and Media Player recognize everything just fine. I tried reinstalling eac to no avail. Any ideas?

Sadly, I've run into the same problem. It seemed rather sudden to me, because it was working for a while after I put in my new DVD burner. However, I think it may have had something to do with installing Impression, which claims to be able to burn DVD's as well, but isn't very good at it. It may have changed something that I wish it hadn't, and now EAC won't read audio CDs.

Have you installed any programs remotely related to the CDROM drives lately?

Actually that is a good point because after I installed my sony dru500a burner thats when things started acting up for me as well. After a fresh format now everything is working fine though.

Any of you guys been screwing up your "aspi" layer, easily done apparently, if so download Adaptecs installer to reinstate. Could also be a conflict though if you've installed for example Nero's aspi when you've already got another.

Do I really know what I'm talking about... hmmm VAGUELY.

Cheers, Sim

DVD software was the culprit.... a quick uninstall of some stuff and I was back in business.... Thanks.

Which DVD software? EAC used to work until I had to do a clean install of XP on a new drive due to a crash and now I get the same problem, so I think a fresh install of XP is out of the question. The only thing I can think of in my case is I didn't test it after the install and before I installing Pinnacle Studio 8...
I've tried ForceASPI and the other previouly mentioned aspi tools with no success...

I had installed WinDVD recorder, Dazzle dvd something or another, and Gordians Knot? but I was just fooling around so I took them off and everything worked fine.

You know, I had installed Pinnacle Studio 8 when I was testing all that DVD video software out. That might be the culprit. Then again, I did install about 8 different programs without using EAC, so I can't be sure which one did it.

EAC likes to have total control of the drive, so it makes sense that it wouldn't like if some other program had a similar plan.

I uninstalled all of the Sony programs that come with the drive but i'm still having issues. I might try to set up another user that has nothing running or just keep uninstalling programs until I figure out what it might be. The problem now is that I'm trying to pull off programs that don't sit in the background (roxio ez-cd creator, alcohol %120, etc).

Seems like it's several programs rather than a specific one that causes the issues. The other funny thing is that it wouldn't recognize my other, non-burning DVD drive.
