Got the DVDs.

Show of hands: Who fell completely in love with Kaylee within the first 15 seconds she appeared on the screen?

Thanks for the recommendation. Quite excellent.

Yes.

That's not a very good picture of Jewel though. Much better ones here.

Yup. A friend of mine pointed out that the most attractive one is the one that we're apparently supposed to find least attractive.

Ah, the old Ginger vs. Mary Ann thing.

What I found most attractive was the character, not necessarily the actress' physical form. It was what she said and the way she said it.

Although I disagree that we're not supposed to find her attractive. When she was wounded in the pilot episode, we were meant to fear the possibility of her loss.

Why must attraction be confined to the physical?

Can't say i've heard of her or indeed the series, but she's definately a bang tidy lass.

Shame she's the same age as my bro.

Wow, nice pics.
Very nice.
Um, anyway, I got my DVDs from Amazon last night too, and went through about 5 episodes. It is a very good series; they managed to make me care about these characters in just a couple of episodes...something Voyager (just for instance) couldn't do with a whole season. It was certainly worth the 35 bucks, but now I am sad that I will only get one season of it (probably). I even like Jayne.

Oh, hell yeah. Love the actress, and as you watch all the shows on DVD (with the commentary), you'll even fall more in love with her, just because.

It's not. That's my point. I was attracted to the character's personality enough so that when she was wounded, I actually felt something other than a detached realization of "oh, here's a plot point". In that sense, I'm sure it was completely intentional on Joss' part, and therefore I disagree with the statement that she's meant to be unattractive.

Eh, you're right. I'm saying two things at once.
  1. I think she's physically more attractive than the others, who I believe are intended to be more physically attractive.
  2. That attraction need not be physical in nature.
Which are unrelated points.

Exactly! The character, the writting, and Jewel's delivery draw you in quickly. The dialog is very well written, and Jewel hits everything dead on. Plus, I also happen to find her physically attractive, but as Bitt said, that is another point.

Jayne is hilarious. Espically in "Jaynestown" and "Our Mrs. Reynolds". (So does she! I call her.. Vera.)

They supposedly are working on a movie. Universal picked it up. Haven't heard anything in a while tho, I'm guessing it won't be ready until '05, definately.

A friend of mine worked at a Fox station when they sent out promo materials for that show. I picked up a small "cargo container" from the ship. It had promo materials in it, a few photos, and a "alliance food ration". Rather neat.
