Hi there,

For those keen techno listeners there is a new PaulWay mix out : Supersonic 2 - similar in style to Supersonic 1 with lots of new and old tunes. You can pick it up as a BitTorrent in 160kbit and 80kbit.

I've also completed the Antipodean "Laidoutback" mix - now breaking the record as the longest mix at over four hours eleven minutes long. Again it's on BitTorrent in 128kbit format. All these are encoded in high quality variable bit rate using LAME 3.92 so you shouldn't hear any great loss of quality even on the 80kbit mix (which is really for memory stick MP3 players and suchlike where you don't have the infinite space of an empeg.)

The BitTorrent format seems to be working fine - and will be a lot better when I move to a symmetric 512/512 DSL connection - but I'd appreciate people who like the mixes and don't mind donating some bandwidth to the cause leaving them to seed. I can't match the download speed from Synergy's server alone, but together we can.... .

Do people find having the lower bitrate format as well as the high bitrate format useful?

Have fun,

Paul

Mmm.... new mix.

I'm grabbing it now! Hopefully I've got my firewall configured nicely, so that I'm not just leeching.

Personally, no -- I only listen to them from the empeg at home or in the car.

Is anyone having better luck than I? I am at 5 hours and counting for the supersonic mix, and am now stuck at 75-80%. I get 1k/s for 20 seconds, and then nothing for 5 minutes. Every machine is choked or snubbed and at this rate it is going to be another couple of days before I get this file.

Not I. 86% with 8 hours to go.

Someone's grabbing it from me at a rate between 8 and 12 times faster than I'm getting it from the source. It won't be long before they're stuck at the same spot I am.

Ah yes, the upload speed. For me this is still limited to 64kbit (cheap DSL). While we're going to get either 1500/256 or 512/512 when we move to the new home, at the moment I'm still stuck trying to host 26 mix files on this small link. Which is why I'm asking for people to run seeds of my mixes for as long as possible. While there are some of my more popular mixes, such as Club Mix 2003 and Machine Insanity, with plenty of seeds, most of my seeds seem to decide to drop off after about a week or so - I've watched several mixes painstakingly upload and populate with seeds, and then a week later I'm left as the only person serving them. I don't ask money for these mixes, so please donate that one thing that most people aren't paying for - bandwidth.

With most BitTorrent clients you can give them the completed file to start seeding immediately rather than download the whole thing again. And the good news is that Supersonic 2 and the complete Laidoutback mix now have multiple seeds, so you should be getting a better download rate now...

Thanks in advance,

Paul
