Merry Christmas Everyone !!!

Santa has been here in Leeds, he left one of these under the tree, amazing how practical he is these days, but I have to say it's going to last me a life time

Cheers

Late as always....but Merry Christmas. Unfortunately Santa sub-contracted Royal Mail here and they've lost/delayed/appropriated the best stuff.

Unfortunately, our main Christmas news is that our oldest Boxer has passed on, 12 is a good age for a Boxer and she went quickly, but the place seems a bit empty.

Amazingly, as I was typing that, they pulled up outside: I must be getting something from the Rohan Shop! It'll be later in the day before I see Mrs. Boxer, we were still in the pub at 5.00am (But so were Chris Moyles and David O'Leary (What a name dropper!))!

Wow! An electrically heated Rohan jacket, plug it in and it keeps you warm for 3 hours - I've not seen one of them before - how cool is that: Well warm not cool, I s'pose!
I really wanted an Acer media centre PC, but you can't have everything - I've also got all 142 episodes of Sergeant Bilko on DVD.

Yep, I've known Chris from a toddler, his godfather is my best friend who put up the money to start my business in '82.

Sergeant Bilko? I don't think that's been shown in the US since it was originally on the air. I'm amazed it was ever broadcast in the UK. Or is this a different show?

On another note, I'm typing this on my Christmas present, a PSP.

.....Well, it must have been, because these DVD's are lifted from various U.S. channels like "Comedy Central", as opposed to being from the copyright owner. they were shown extensively by the BBC in the 50's, and repeated in the 80's and 90's: I watched an episode yesterday that I can clearly remember seeing my father near to tears watching, and the one with the chimpanzee has to be one of the greatest bits of comedy, ever.
I think that the great pity is having Steve Martin let loose on a, very unfunny, revival to cloud our vision of great comedy innovation. At the time they were released, most of us had been in some sort of disciplined or military environment and Bilko was a mirror to that.

Agree Phil Silvers was absolutely supreme in this role, hugely popular in the UK, it's had pretty regular runs on the BBC. According to the Wiki entry:

"In 2003, The Phil Silvers Show was voted Best Sitcom in the BBC guide to television comedy."

I received one as an Xmas present too. It was pretty cool to be surfing the BBC news website within a few minutes (once I'd figured out how to input text on the thing).

There's a ton of hacks out there for these things; you can play ISO's of your old Playstation1 CD's as well as a load of homebrew apps and game ports. If you're that way inclined yourself and want some links to get started just let me know.

Highlights for me (other than two new Wii controller sets), were the Superman mega-14-disc set from the fiancee, and the Kids in the Hall series box set from the parents. I did well by those two groups in general

Merry Christmas to all - just about recovered from a really bad cold, which meant no alcohol, no partying and almost no voice (although now I'm doing a good Barry White so that's kinda fun)

Had lots of fun watching the kids go mental with all their gadget gifts, and I did get my long promised Guitar Hero II, so my son and I have been playing that one. Still the best console game ever, in my opinion, although SWMBO got Sing Star, which is also a good party game, if a little useless for folks like me who can't sing at all:-)

Hope all empeggers are hale and heart and looking forward to Hogmanay and 2007!

You know what? For some reason, I was confusing Sergeant Bilko with CPO Sharkey. Yeah, Bilko was a pretty good show. Sharkey not so much.

I'd love to run homebrew stuff, but, (1) I don't want it to have an impact on playing normal games, and (2) I have the newer motherboard, which apparently prevents any of those hacks from working.

I'd forgotten just how funny and just how well written. I've rationed myself to an episode a day so that I don't fall foul of the fate of the soldiers in the Monty Python killer joke sketch!
Having said which, I got these DVD's imported from a company in America, a bargain at $99 for all 142 1/2 hour episodes, but I wonder about their legality: Most of them start with the "Comedy Central" logo.

It shouldn't impact playing games and the newer motherboards work now.

It would seem that the only legitimate DVD collection is some random 18 episodes. I remember Comedy Central (which is a basic cable network in the US) running them ten years ago or more, so I'm sure whoever you bought them from just burned them to DVD.
