Vincent: Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood.
Jules: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfucker. Pigs sleep and root in shit. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eat nothin' that ain't got enough sense enough to disregard its own faeces.

Anyway, seriously. Pork is well known for being a carrier of trichinosis, which is a larval roundworm. These days, farmed pigs very rarely have trichinosis, but it's certainly possible. Up through at least the 70s, though, you had to assume that pork was trichinosis-laden, just like you have to assume chicken is salmonella-laden now. To counter it, you had to make sure that the meat was heated through to 100F.

All that said, those videos look like fakes to me. For one thing, Coke is not going to penetrate the meat in a few minutes, much less the few seconds that it's being poured over the top. And even if it did, I can't imagine why it would encourage worms to crawl to the surface anyway.

It's certainly not going to make me stop eating pork.

I didn't see any worms in any of those videos. I did see a grain of rice in some tweezers in the second video.

Since I don't baste nor marinade my pork in Coke, Pepsi or any other similar unconsumable garbage, I don't have a problem either way.

I'm also convinced that pigs rooting around in their own filth is what gives them their wonderful taste.

If anything it looks like the fat gathering together out of the meat in some wierd reaction with the coke.

Not that I eat pork as a rule anyway.

Cheers

Cris.

You should have stayed for dinner: Chicken marinated in coke is mrs. Boxer's standard cooking method, and it tastes great!

But Delia's is the best way to boil an egg, and a Manx kipper firm gave me how best to microwave their kippers, which covers my entire catering repertoire!
