Do these cards work?

I want to record from my Xbox 360 to the PC as an mpg file for editing.

I currently use the MS VGA cable to connect from xbox to my monitor for playing games.

Can the signal be split to record the VGA and audio signals? Or is there a simpler way to record from the 360?

If you're video card supports S-Video in, that would probably be the easiest way to record it. Running it through the video card might introduce a bit of latency, though.

I would have thought that the 360 would do a better job of converting the video to something that could be shown on a normal TV (assuming this is your final goal), so I would also try to capture the S-Video or Composite output rather than the VGA.

What is the video going to be used for?

Cheers

Cris.

As well as all the usual PC/Mac stuff I have to look after at work I also have a 360, PS3 and a Wii (we do a computer games show). When we need to get footage off them we just use an S-Video out cable into a DVCAM deck, although you could record it using a capture card like a pinnacle or a hauppauge. The quality is more than good enough for SDTV.
