I'm trying to install a new hard drive into my trusty ol' empeg. It's a Toshiba MK6025GAS . I read somewhere someone else was having the exact same issue with a similar model drive, but no resolution was posted.
As it stands, I've verified it's not the cable. I can plug my old drive in and it starts right up, but the new drive i get some odd behaviour. I've tried all the vaious builder.upgrade images.

1. No matter what i do the drive is recognized as hdb. even forcing the master jumper, it still comes up hdb.
2. IRQ error:
hdb: TOSHIBA MK6025GAS, ATA DISK drive0x5411mp v0
empeg single channel IDE
hdb: TOSHIBA MK6025GAS, ATA DISK drive
hdb: TOSHIBA MK6025GAS, ATA DISK drive
hdb: TOSHIBA MK6025GAS, ATA DISK drive
hdb: TOSHIBA MK6025GAS, ATA DISK drive
hdb: TOSHIBA MK6025GAS, ATA DISK drive
ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0xff, count=1
ide0 at 0x000-0x007,0x038 on irq 6
hdb: TOSHIBA MK6025GAS, 57231MB w/0kB Cache, CHS=7296/255/63
empeg-flash driver initialized

which prolly leads to
3. final failure:

Press Ctrl-A to enter pump...VFS: Cannot open root device 03:05
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:05

I noticed that the voltage on the new drive is dc+5v 0.7a and the old one is dc+5v .55a

is that the issue? am i better off selling this drive, and getting a new one that has been proven to work?

I've long since replaced the original wallwart with new ones that were recommended from this board a few years ago...

Nothing there to worry about. Something different must be the matter.

Is this the only drive connected?

If so, then:

(1) the jumper is wrong (despite your efforts). Usually, no jumper is installed/required for a master (hda) drive.

Or (2) the cable/connectors are defective, resulting in the master/slave bit not being seen by the empeg. Highly unlikely here.

Or (3) Toshiba drives are weird. (dunno)

???

Yep, its the only drive. i've tried with and without jumpers, same thing. Which pin is the master/slave bit? I did have to resolder a few of the pins where the ide connector attaches to the board. I didn't assume this to be a possibilty due the the fact the old drive works fine. I guess I'll see if i can't swap drives with someone.
