How about shaving/grinding down the right and left sides of the Empeg's front face plate. That would include grinding down the sides of the metal handle and the sides of the plastic faceplate. I'm thinking about grinding down about 2mm on each side. Has anyone tried doing this? Any successes? Suggestions? Also considering ordering a spare face plate and handle in case a future car doesn't need this modification done.

Thanks,

Curly

I had the same situation. I saved the empeg and shaved a little off the bezel of the dashboard. Used a wooden block and sandpaper. You can buy another bezel at a dealership or a junkyard. No more empegs though...

Doubtful if any are available at all. IIRC the injection molding tool for the face is worn out. Don't know about the handle though.

As tracerbullet says, replacement parts for the car are far more readily available than for the empeg...

Hey Tracer, why did you need to modify your dash? I have the same car as you, and mine works without dash modification. Do you have any pics? What exactly did you do? Thanks.

I flush mounted mine, so that the handle and everything would be even with the bezel. If you didn't cut anything, you must have it sticking out some, on top of the bezel. It's just a personal preference on how you want it.

I have pictures in the "tracer bullet gallery" at the riocar.org site here: http://www.riocar.org/modules.php?set_albumName=album61&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

Cool. Yeah, mine looks like the old version sticking out a bit. The newer one looks really nice, but considering my other head unit sticks out a bit also, I will probably just leave it as is.
