The clone tool is doing a simple "What serial number is lower" when it should be doing a "what actual serial number is lower", throwing out the date portion on MK2 units. The problem I ran into was where my player was made in a later month then the newer one I was trying to clone to:

My player : 090000947
New player: 010101993

Why not just disregard the serial number completely and just ASK you which player you want to clone FROM and TO? Am I missing something here?

Ture, that would be better. The origional clone tool was made when legal concerns were still high. Maybe now things like this could be done.

In fact it was written specifically to clone Mk.1 players to Mk.2. We have to consider whether we can still support this tool.

It will become less critical as the download feature becomes more sophisticated.

Where is the serial number stored? Could you swap drives and clone that way? Either copy each drive individually or swap drives and then try a clone?

Hi Rob.

One idea for the download feature that should be easy to implement:
Add the original FID of the downloaded file to it's filename. If one combined that with the CSV export, writing a script to recreate most, if not all, of the player's playlist structure should be easy to implement.

It's stored in flash. Mike has a note on his to-do list now to add a "swap source & destination" button to empegClone.

Hmm.. yeah; would be nice to have a swap button... argh; I've got a spare empeg that I need to dump files onto this weekend as the old one is going back with my friend who's visiting me right now... oh well; time for an ftpd client:(
