WOOHOOO!!! - 29/08/2000 18:24

Got it. Unpacked it, and after a few minutes of not realizing i had to set the IP address, got it up on the network, synced a few albums...BLAM!! IT WORKS! BEAUTIFUL! Man, i have tears in my eyes! hahah. So amazing. I've had it for about an hour, and i can already tell this thing is going to change my life and how i deal with music.

EMPEG. Kudos, you guys are amazing... i thought so before i held it in my hand, and now it's confirmed. Amazing.

I'll be getting the install this weekend and will have many pictures and notes. So stay tuned.

Thanks for an amazing product!

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 31/08/2000 09:32

Been using it non-stop for 2 days with minor glitches...namely emplode locking up a few times. I synced about 8 gigs worth last night and it worked flawlessly. USB works, Ethernet works, haven't tried serial cable yet, but why bother. I'm still trying to figure out the way it handles playlists in regards to "appending" and tweaking, but overall i'm in MP3 heaven. Install's going in the weekend. Pictures to follow!

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 01/09/2000 08:10

Saweeet. My buddy and i (the head installer at a national electronics chain who will go unmentioned for his jobs sake...heheh) were up until 2am last night installing my new system and Empeg at his shop. We started at around 9, so it was a 5 hour job altogether...the Empeg part of which only took about 30 minutes. The rest was wiring my car and installing two MTX amps and two 10" JL subs. I took about 50 pictures of the install in progress, and i'll be putting up a site for it sometime this weekend.

Everyone in the install shop was amazed by the Empeg...all the little audio geek's eyes lit up once they saw how much music it could store, the visuals...and the EQ (which should be a much more touted feature of the Empeg i might add).

Beautiful. That's all i can say. It's been working flawlessly, and my drive to work this morning, a 40 minute commute, seemed like 5. You have no idea how much of your music you are missing until you have at least one Subwoofer in your car. What a difference. I ended up spending WAY more than i had planned, but i'm one of those do it right or don't do it at all types...so screw it. Overtime hours here i come!

Site to follow soon!!!

yes Yes YES YES!

Thank you, Loren. I have been trying to hammer this point home on this bbs for more than a year now, and still people say "Oh, I'm not an audiophile. The standard speakers are enough to keep me happy."

It is like trying to explain red to a person blind from birth. Until they have seen it, or in this case heard it for themselves, you can't explain what they're missing.

I'm glad you are pleased with your install. It sounds to me like you did it exactly right.

*taps foot*
I can't wait to get home and post my install pics!!

Yep yeap... you're right. If i had to recommend to someone what to buy to make a stock system better, it'd definately be a sub before replacing the stocks speakers...in most cases at least...especially in newer cars. Pics will be up in a matter of hours! stay tuned.

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 04/09/2000 09:41

Wow. Thanks for taking us along on your empeg installation odessey. It was a great way to start my morning!

A couple questions:

I noticed you have a Honda Civic Si Hatchback. I have a '95 Honda Civic CX Hatchback (yes, one of the cheapest cars on the planet), and I've never had rear speakers (sounds like they were part of the factory install for yours). Where do you put them? Maybe the si has a place for speakers that's not built into the CX (hence, the savings).

Second, regarding Scott the installer. Would he be willing/interested in doing another empeg installation? I would be happy to pay him whatever the going rate is. I really like the fact that he is experienced and meticulous. (I live Noe Valley in SF, so I'm pretty flexible about going to any bay area location.)

Best wishes on your empeg!

Derek

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 05/09/2000 00:42

You could put the rear speakers into the plate which separates your trunk from the passenger's room. (Ablage - alles klar? ;-) But you would have to cut holes into it - and not everybody wants to do that.

But the rear speakers aren't that important. In car-audio shops everyone will tell you that they are just for rear fill and don't need to be that powerful.

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 05/09/2000 10:45

Hrmm...good point. I'm reconsidering replacing the stock rears in exchange for getting some nicer fronts and some tweeters to balance it out. I really want to put in a center channel since there is a nice grate where the defrost comes up from the dash... would take some rigging.

Wow. The Scope Visual is Amazing with some good Drum and Bass Techno. Check it out! Sooo cool..hhahah! (looking at it on my desk...i can't stop watching it.) Gotta love this thing!

HAHA! i love when people get "animator" jokes.

I know it's been asked a million times, and skillfully avoided...but what is the release schedule when we'll be able to see the new stuff?!?!

I've said this in another thread, but to summarise:

1.01 is a bug fix release due out any day now.
1.1 is a major release with lots of new features, expected to make public beta within three weeks.

It's from Toy Story 2 when Mr. Potato Head and the gang are going out to look for Woody, and Mrs. Potato Head is packing all of Mr. Potato Heads parts in his rear compartment. "I'm packing your ANGRY eyes..." heheh. Brilliance.

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 07/09/2000 15:44

Voice recognition will be 2.0 - but we don't have a date yet.

The situation is that we're now evaluating two licenced technologies. The original system has recently been updated and has some fantastic specifications on paper (and in practice apparantly). We're also looking at a brand new system from another major developer.

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 07/09/2000 21:32

I can't wait. Will you be able to set the key word to activate the commands (such as saying AUTOPC for that piece o' ****)? I want to call mine shithead, like the dog from the Jerk (I have no idea why though, just strikes me as funny at the moment). At least someone will do what I say. Or maybe like the Iron Chef it would answer "Yes, Fui-son?" Wow I had a long day...

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 08/09/2000 01:10

There will probably be limitations on the keyword (no gaps, for example, as it does garbage collection when it gets "silence"), but in theory it could be set to anything, yes.

This is sounding quite powerful. I hope it doesn't eat up all the spare cpu cycles...

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 08/09/2000 12:04

Not all of them, but it will eat a chunk when it's sampling continuously looking for a keyword...

Does it have a cute "perculating" sound while it's thinking about what you said?

Ahh, another Iron Chef fan. That is such a cool show (Marked for recording 2 times a week in my house). Now that you said this, I will probably end up with this on my empeg MkII 2.0
:-)

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 10/09/2000 17:50

Now if we could only get the empeg to make us a nice cone of squid ink ice
cream, we'd be all set. Rob?

I'm even more psyched for the voice recognition now. Just have to be sure not to crash before I get it. ;-)

-Zeke

drakino, any chance you can sample a "Yes, Fui-son?" for me and post a link? -z

Should be easy enough, just need to hook an audio feed to the input I have on the dock. (I love multimedia laptops and a dock with so many ins and outs.) Give me a few days on this one, but I should be able to pull it from the Dishplayer if the last weeks one is still on it.

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 11/09/2000 17:28

Since it's monitoring all the time, how about we put in the 7 dirty words and have the empeg scream bloody murder every time somebody cusses in the car. hahaha...

Re: WOOHOOO!!! - 11/09/2000 21:53

hahah... now THAT's an idea... if you have kids and trusted them with the Empeg (shea right) you could monitor for certain words to trigger a recording program...okay, that's not exactly where i meant to go with that...heheh...but it's a whole new world of ideas. Doh, the disk is mounted read only isn't it.... ah well. Yeah, anyway...you could have a PeeWee's playhouse like SECRET word. Whenever someone says "door" it would make an obnoxious dinging noise and everyone could wave their hands spastically. Just an idea..... i need sleep.
