Dimmer is only available in the car, at least in 2.0 beta 11. You can force the player to think it is in the car with Hijack - use 'Force AC/DC Power Mode'.

However, I don't believe you can make it always boot up in DC/Car mode - that setting only takes effect for the next bootup.
