If you download a hijack binary, then these patches are already included. If you choose to build a kernel yourself, then you will need to apply them to the source tree before applying the hijack patch.

The voladj patch allows the empeg to try and 'normalise' mp3s on the fly. Hijack provides a menu interface to it. I'm not sure what the rdsfake patch does.
