That should work fine.

The only difference is it might not be so easy to hook it up to a DC supply as a laptop display. You'll either have to find the outputs of the transformer and feed power in there, or just run the thing off mains voltage. Neither is a particular problem, you'll just have to decide which is easiest or more desirable.
