Don't open it unless you've got a clean room handy. You'll get dust and other crud inside it and it will get damaged. Hard disks are made in clean rooms where the air is filtered for a reason. The heads are incredibly close to the surface of the disc and a speck of dust can cause untold amounts of damage.

I don't think I've ever heard of a case of sticktion in such a new drive.

You could just be unlucky and got a dud hard disk again?
