hijack uses that in a non comment context some times. I suppose there was some logic to it that I'll understand some day.

Yes, to make sure that the player can't get confused by hijack's commands when it parses the file. hijack knows to skip over regular comments, too.

I wouldn't go starting comments with ;@ though.
