I think the player will always try to set the dimmer on power up and whenever it senses a change in the dimmer level. I am quite sure it doesn't remember "the dimmer's already at 100% I don't need to change it". Before the dimmer mod, repeatedly setting 100% would cause the dimmer to be set to different values due to that problem.

None of the suggestions so far will get around the dimmer problem though.
