Yes, APRS would be *very* nice to be able to use the empeg for... I found the other day a design for making a normal NMEA GPS able to send position over "raw IR" which can be decoded with a normal IrDA port without the IrDA-stack. Apparently OZIexplorer can use this for APRS on a PocketPC device.
This should make us able to receive GPS data without hogging the Serial port, and then a HAM radio modem/TNC could be used on the serial port for APRS. Alternatively, the Mic-in could be used to read and decode APRS packets, but we would then at least need the serial port to transmit APRS.
