I think I managed this about a year ago by installing eveything, then manually turning bits off by selecting the "do not start automatically when I switch on my PC" option.

I did that with the stupid resource thing, and the content filter. As I recall, many of the options were well hidden!

You could do a lot worse than run AVG on your machine instead. The free edition is great - I use it at home and at work. www.grisoft.com
