Supremtronic (just east of Active Surplus, on Queen St. W., Toronto) has some surplus brand new never used head units for CAD$25.50/each.

I just finished wiring one into SWMBO's Honda Civic, no issues at all. Works great, and has a front-panel AUX-IN jack (mini-headphone style) for the Empeg.

Not exactly high end, but sometimes really cheap lower tech is best!
