In a recent thread, Rob stated that he shouldn't be contacted about serial numbers for every third-party purchase. They keep a list of stolen serials in case anyone tries to send one in for service, but he can't pre-verify things for people.

If we ever set up a third party stolen serial number registry, that would be the way to check. Provided people report to it, of course.
