Maybe this is sacrilege to some, but I think Van Hagar was the best lineup. Not only from a songwriting perspective, but I think Sammy did Roth's tunes better than Roth did, and hearing Roth cover Sammy's tunes was just absurd. Cherone is pretty much irrelevant, as was the album they did with him.
Having said that, I'm not sure I'd be so keen on seeing them on a tour where they're not promoting an album. True, this means they'll stick to the songs people want to hear instead of playing <Homer> new crap </Homer>. But they seem to be the kind of band that could easily get bored on stage and look at this tour as just another money maker. If they were promoting a new album, I think I'd be more confident that they're in it to win it.
