The DirecTV guy just pretty much took the RG-6 cable and shoved it through a gap under my eaves, straight into my attic.

I'm guessing that the cable had to go downwards to get past the edge of the roof, then upwards again to get into the space under the eaves. That's actually a perfectly valid drip loop, and in the right place, too.
