There are plenty, at least if we allow Ethernet: SMB, DAAP, Airtunes, Rio Receiver protocol, UPnP MediaServer. Heck, for Ipod-in-a-BMW functionality, even Shoutcast would be better than what they've currently got. The issues appear to be more to do with intercorporate politics and with manufacturers actually giving a flying doughnut. Apple seem to be doing much better than Rio at giving a flying doughnut, and at convincing non-techie companies so to do, so I can see DAAP or Airtunes becoming a de facto standard.
