I use those Maplin transformers and they work great for me.

I can't remember your original post on this so I don't know what you've already done in trying to resolve this. Perhaps the problem you described is another symptom of what is causing the alternator whine in the first place? Unless of course, the isolating transformer you bought was simply DOA?
