The IDE cable has been replaced, although it was a little while ago so I suppose it could be faulty again, and the soldering on my IDE header was done early last year to a reasonable standard, again I suppose it could be that, but it seems (hopefully) unlikely.

My field test yesterday yielded no unexpected results, so, a result in itself! The Empeg behaved perfectly, as it usually does. I selected a bunch of different playlists, including ones that had given me errors a couple of days ago, and no problems arose.

Hopefully whatever was troubling the unit has gone away for the moment.

Thanks for your help guys, it was much appreciated! Even if the root cause wasn't identified, I have a useable Empeg again at least for the moment.
