I have need to hook into a device via serial and configure it today and it is inconviently located. A notebook would be the best solution for this but unfortunatly I lack a working USB->Serial converter, and my two notebooks are both legacy free. So, I'm pondering what it would take to use the empeg for this. I'm thinking using the ethernet port to log into the empeg, then going back out over the empegs one serial port to the device.

With this in mind, what would be the easiest way to do this? I know I'd need a terminal program on the empeg like minicom, anyone know where an ARM compiled version is? I know I'd also have to add the telnet server to the empeg to get in via ethernet. The last piece of the puzzle here is how well the empeg will work in this config, since it uses the serial port already for it's console port.

Thanks for any info on this.
