That's just the light shining off the laid corn, and probably chalk in the soil. The lay is different for each part of design - the circle would have been swirled after they (the aliens) made the inner design (by walking).

This "circle" is by far the finest I have ever seen. It is just up the road from me (10 min drive from that one) and appeared mid 2003. I took my mum and aunt for a look and there were lots of people there. Remember that those lines are the width of a tractor - the thing was huge!



edit: The "disc" is 8-bit ASCII (how convenient) and reads:

(the "EELRIJUE" is thought to actually be "BELIEVE")
