My favourite was a guy who replaced a steering rack for my then-girlfriend and when I complained it was all over the place (knowingly full well that the tracking was hopelessly out), told me that "Before you had a worn rack and a worn ball joint, so they cancelled each other out. Now you only have one worn thing, so there is lots of play." I honestly didn't know how to respond to such technical brilliance!!

Reading more about those tyres, I reckon they just don't last very long on certain cars. BMW seem to have a track record of replacing them, so I think my friend will have to rely on her charm and their goodwill!

I prefer the idea that she is doing secret track days without telling us!!
