Does it also act as a USB HID device allowing bluetooth control even in environments that don't have a bluetooth stack loaded? Thats how the Mac Bluetooth is set. Pair a mouse and keyboard, and it works everywhere. I had forgotten about this until I went to install Windows on my Macbook, and realized the external bluetooth mouse was just working like normal during setup. It is also how Macs can ship with no wired keyboard, and still allow users to enter the old Open Firmware, or the newer EFI bootup keys.
