I'm guessing this must be a driver problem but I'm not sure..

I have a dual boot Dell XPS computer with a NVIDIA GeForce 5200 video card. I usually use this computer with Kubuntu, but for work I sometimes need to use XP (usually I work from a laptop with XP). So one day I restart the computer into XP, I get no further than the windows splash screen, with the blue bar thingy. The the screen goes dark and the computer reboots. OK, I restart with VGA mode, and uninstall the drivers and reinstall the lastest drivers. This doesn't work as the thing reboots in the middle of the install process. So I'm stuck at VGA level graphics, any attempt to increse the resolution kills it.

Now under Kubuntu everythings works fine! No problems at all. So I'm guessing that the windows video driver is telling the card to do somthing that it is no longer able to do, due to some physical problem? My guess is that the more generic linux driver somehow bypasses this trouble spot.

The monitor can be conected via DVI or VGA and the problem occurs with both. I can't think of anything else that would be relavant. I can't recall adding any new software or drivers on the windows side that would have changed things. But then I can go for weeks before I reboot into windows so....
