This acquisition may have something to do with PC-based DVR technologies. DirecTV already has a decent DVR and their TiVo relationship was all but dead the moment they previewed it at CES in 2005.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this. Personally, I haven't been a fan of where Replay has gone with their software/UI. And as far as TiVo is concerned, I draw the line at paying maybe 10-20$ per year for guide service, not per month.
