My friend Aamir became the newest empeg owner today with the epic install into his 2005 Toyota Prius. The install was probably the most frustrating one yet simply because of mounting issues. One would think that somewhat DIN-sized opening below the stereo would house the empeg nicely. Unfortunately, getting the translucent door to close with the empeg in there was a royal pain.

In the end, we're both pretty pleased with the outcome. The modification to the dash opening could be a bit cleaner, but it will be hidden behind the translucent door most of the time.

We decided to use this FM modulator to feed the empeg into the stock stereo. Unfortunately, most AUX-in adapters for this car either aren't made anymore, or they're about $300. For $30, I think the FM route did the trick nicely. I hooked its 12 volt input to the empeg's remote amp lead. This way, if the empeg is on, the FM modulator is on. If the empeg is off, the modulator is off. It's pretty slick, but there's nothing really high-tech about it. The sound is definitely acceptable and clean through the stock system.

You can see the install photos here, but I have included some teaser shots below. Enjoy!
