Congratulations on a rather smooth journey. I think you'll find a similar series of bureaucratic roadblocks and hoops regardless of what country you immigrate to with a long list of possessions. I don't know the specifics of coming into Canada, but I know someone that did it as recently as 10 years ago and it wasn't any fun for them at all. Of course my parents did it when I was 4 as well.
