No, it's that I didn't know about the ctrl+ trick.

It works perfectly on every website I tried (including this one)... EXCEPT for the one I need it for. On that site (www.spanishdict.com) it works erratically. Usually it will enlarge or reduce the data one time, then cease to work. That will be OK for me, I only need to set it one time per session. Don't know what's different about that website.

In Chrome, The entire page magnifies equally, but doesn't reformat to fit the width of the window, if that's important.

Also, Doug, in Chrome the zoom level is remembered on a per-site basis. I believe it's the same for Firefox, but it's been a while since I used that browser.

I use this feature for a few web comics I read which, for some reason, I like viewing a little larger. Now, whenever I go to the site for those comics (via Google Reader), Chrome remembers the zoom level I like for that site and keeps it. Very handy.
