Forgot to update this -- I haven't played KSP for a couple of weeks now -- but I finally managed to retrieve everyone from the Mun. Longest stay was about 3 years MET.

It turns out that I didn't have enough delta-V to get the rescue mission out of Mun orbit, so I also had to send another craft over with some spare fuel...
