Check to see if your laptop has a docking station with PCI slots.

I thought of that. Unfortunately, the older one doesn't (a twinhead p79t) as far as I can find out, and the newer one (a compaq presario 1694) doesn't seem to be referenced on compaq's web site (which has a dreadful search engine )
