All right. I am totally stuck here without Tony's FAQ.
How does one apply a .upgrade file over serial from Linux?

I used to know how to do this!

EDIT: Or maybe not.
I think I always did disk initializations using the empeg tools
from a Win98SE VM. And that's how I'm doing this now too!
Good thing my main machine still has a physical (bus) serial port..
Win98SE isn't too bright about USB ports.
