Indeed, this confused me at first, when I installed and configured DD-WRT on my Linksys WRT3200ACM. I didn't understand what the third radio was for, and DD-WRT lets you shoot yourself in the foot with the settings and configuration of that third radio. The AP has some interesting, er, "undefined behavior" when you try to configure the backhaul's radio the same way as one of the regular radios.
