There are ways to keep your original head unit in the car.... but why would you want to?

To me at least, the primary charm of the empeg is that it lets you get rid of the CD player - you know, that thing that will only play for about an hour before you have to swap CDs in and out. Or worse yet, make you stop and open the trunk (oops, sorry Brit - open the boot) and mess around swapping CDs in the changer. Don't forget the delights of having the thing skip every time you go over the railroad tracks. And isn't it fun carrying around a big box with all your CDs in it just so you can have your music close at hand? Thanks but no thanks - I won't miss my CD player in the slightest when it is gone. I will just enjoy having full random access to 125 hours of the very best music taken in bits and pieces from my CD collection.

I suppose there might be a small downside in that I can't listen to any CD that I haven't downloaded into the empeg, but I think it's a small price to pay.
