SCSI is not required. I do great rips on my IDE CD-ROM drive. It's likely that you can do rips just fine on your existing drive. Try it first.

I've seen different pieces of software that had compatibility problems with certain drives, so it may take some trial and error at first. For instance, everyone raves about EAC, but I could never get it to work with a certain drive I had, whereas WinDAC32 worked perfectly on that drive. So you never know.
