Sun machines (and a few others) drop to PROM mode when they receive break signals on the serial port. Almost all DTEs send a pulse down the serial line when they are turned off, which is interpreted as a break by the Suns. This is a FAQ amongst Sun newbies. The Empeg isn't doing something similar, is it?
