Philips is the company that owns the patent for the CD-audio format, as well as the trademark of the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo. As I understand it, they allege that the copy protected discs do not conform to the CD-audio standard and therefore are not allowed to use the logo or to pass off the discs as being "compatible" since they do not conform.
