Now, with beta 9a, the player comes up with nothing at all selected when a synch is complete, requiring you to pick a playlist before it'll play anything. (This, as I understand it, is by design.)

It's even mentioned in the release notes :)

But even when you pick a playlist, it begins playing in the middle of a song. Is that what's happening or is it my imagination? Can anyone reproduce this?

It shouldn't do this. I can't reproduce it.
