Oh well, just a thought.
I'm changing things around now anyway, as I discover more things to play with at traffic lights - the equaliser/balance/l-r delay settings are in constant flux at the moment as changing the eq seems to alter my l-r perception. Perhaps some frequencies take different paths (or are damped more on certain paths?) to my ears.
