Is the equalizer turned up past 0db in any band? Is the loudness cranked? That would cause distortion at 0db for certain songs.

Also, there was a bug in the 2.0 beta 3 software which would cause some songs to distort. Are you running beta 11 or 1.03?

Also, as was already suggested, maybe the FM modulator is just crap.
