A "Map" how-to (so far):

1. Go to Mapquest.com. Create a map. Click on "Big Map" right above the "+" button.
2. Either save the map or copy it to Irfanview (a neat little image viewer).
3. Using your mouse, select all of the map except for the top part that says "Map Quest" and the bottom part that has the copyright info (this will put a box around what you want to keep) and do a crop (Edit-->Crop or Ctrl-Y).
4. Do a Negative effect so that it is white text on black.

Now, after that, my process gets very un-scientific. You can reduce the colors, but if you aren't careful, it gets very "speckly". So what I do is copy what I have so far and paste it into MS Paint (because I'm too dumb to know how to use Photoshop). Once that is pasted, I also copy and paste a known good boot logo. ie: One that has the correct shades of grey. This boot logo gets pasted on a lake or something and I used that as my "pallet". Using the "Fill Tool" in MS Paint, I fill in other shades of grey and basically touch up the map replacing the colors with the known good greys.
