Awesome stuff. My interest is in.

Here is copies of the latest section of the faq's that relate, for those who are too lazy to look it up. You can use this to email / promote to other friends / people you know who bought / are buying empegs.

So get the word out!!!

Cheers,

Kieran

These guys are serious, there are people on the board talking about funding manufacturing runs etc. They reallly need about 500+ orders though to do it. So this poll is the results of many months of people bashing the idea around. Essentially sonic blue are not interested in doing it.

The tuner is a truely refined / awesome bit of gear.

If you want to see what it will look like you can put an entry in your config.ini.

You will need to enable config.ini editing if using the following reg key - (can save to a .reg, then run)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SONICblue\emplode\2.0\Settings]
"allow_edit_config"=dword:00000001

Otherwise jemplode can edit config.ini with no help.

config.ini entry -

fake_tuner=1

Notes : Makes empeg/RioCar think it has a tuner attached when it really doesn't. Allows people to see what the tuner functionality looks like (display, menus, etc..) before purchasing an expensive tuner module, and use of the "PrevVisual" button translation (coming soon in Hijack), which only works via the tuner interface. Also allows trace_tuner if you don't have a tuner. If you have a tuner and "fake_tuner" is activated, it will silently reset "fake_tuner=0" and continue.

FAQ entry on RDS

What RDS features does the tuner support?
(Entry last updated on February 8th, 2002)
If transmitted by the local radio stations, it displays RDS (Radio Data Service) text information, and will display the RDS clock when the display is set to the Info:Radio screen. Note that the RDS clock is separate from the player's internal real-time clock, so there may be a difference between the clock shown in the Info:Radio screen and the clock shown in the other screens.

As of version 2.0 Beta 11, the player also supports RDS-TA (Traffic Announce) and RDS-AF (Alternate Frequency tuning) where available. Please see the software release notes for instructions on how to use these features.

Note that, in the United States, very few radio stations support RDS at all, and even fewer support the advanced features. For those that do support it, the RDS equipment seems to get ignored quite often, almost as if the technicians don't even know it's there. As a result, they often broadcast incorrect information. So the RDS features are essentially useless for most of the United States.

However, in Europe, where RDS is widely supported, it's very cool.

If you own the tuner module in the United States, you can expect to see an RDS-capable station only once in a blue moon. And when you do see one, odds are that you'll get the station's call letters and little else. And there's no guarantee they'll even be the right call letters. If you're in "Info:Radio" mode, the RDS clock might appear once in a while, with a high probablility that it will display an incorrect time.

Alternatively many people just get a little walkman, and plug it into the aux input. That's what I will be doing for my home docking station if there are still no tunrers when I come to do it.
