Someone sent me a bootleg that was "ogg-only" and that got me thinking about the open-source player that was mentioned some time ago. Does anyone use it? I'd like to start because I want to encode all my mixes in gapless OGG files. Is there any documentation on how to get it setup on the empeg. I think I remember reading something about it not working correctly in DC mode...

later,
ajay

The original author of RioPlay has been computer-liberated for a couple of months. The next release we put out should be more empeg friendly than it is currently.

As it is now, the empeg version of RioPlay is somewhat dependent on A/C mode. I'd like to fix this soon.

The main thing holding us back, believe it or not is JEmplode's ability to store and tag flac/ogg files on the empeg. Without it, you can't store ogg or flac files on the player's drive. You can currently play ogg and flac files with the new software, but they have to be located on a Rio Receiver server.

The official player will support Ogg in due course. It works OK in house, and should be released to the alpha team soon. The biggest issue is that it is built on the post 2.0 trunk which we doubt is sufficiently stable for a public beta at the moment.

They fell off the net, I'm guessing.

More or less, yes. Evidently there was a move involved, internet access, computer setup, etc.

the latest jEmplode supports Ogg ... I haven't done FLAC yet .. If someone finds me a reference for the header format of FLAC I can probably implement it pretty easily...

Thanks
Mike

This page has a description of the format and at the bottom of the page, it gives a bit-by-bit listed of the file format. Is that what you're looking for?
